A lot of families are craving the same thing right now: less noise, more presence, and a home that feels calmer. The tricky part is that screens are not just entertainment - they are how we work, cope, learn, and sometimes survive a long day.

This is a 7-day reset that is firm but kind. It is not about becoming perfect or turning your house into a monastery. It is about making a little more room for salah, conversation, play, and rest.

Before you start: pick your why

Write one sentence and keep it visible: We are doing this because _____. Examples: better sleep, less arguing, more barakah in the evenings, or more time for Quran and family.

A rule that is impossible to keep becomes a reason to quit. A gentle boundary becomes a new normal.

The 7-day reset (small changes, real results)

  • Day 1: One screen-free anchor. Choose a daily block like Maghrib to Isha, or the first 20 minutes after school.
  • Day 2: Remove one temptation. Move chargers out of bedrooms, or delete one app that pulls you in.
  • Day 3: Replace, do not just remove. Pick one easy alternative: a short walk, a board game, cooking together, or a shared read-aloud.
  • Day 4: Make the phone less magical for kids. Use a simple family rule: no phones at the table, no videos during homework, no devices during bedtime routine.
  • Day 5: Do a family check-in after dinner. Ask: What felt easier? What felt hard? What do we want to adjust?
  • Day 6: Create a Friday-style evening at home (even if it is not Friday). A special meal, a short reminder, a dua together, then play time.
  • Day 7: Lock your minimum. Choose the 2 rules you will keep for the next 2 weeks - even on busy days.

Invite them into the plan instead of policing them. Ask what would actually help: a later bedtime on weekends, a better homework setup, or a clear boundary that protects their sleep. Respect builds cooperation faster than lectures.
